SOCHI, June 23 The Adler District Court of Sochi has arrested activist Marina Melikhova for publicly discrediting the use of the Russian Armed Forces, the press service of the united courts of the Krasnodar Territory reported.
According to the court, in October 2022, the woman was already brought to administrative responsibility for illegal content, which was seen as actions aimed at discrediting the use of the RF Armed Forces. However, even after that, she continued to post such publications on her social networks.
As the press service explained, the defendant, Marina Melikhova, was convicted under part 2 of Art. 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (public calls for extremist activity), she, among other things, was deprived of the right to administer information sites. After her release, the woman again «committed a crime against the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the state» by continuing to run social networks, the release notes.
«The Adler District Court of the city of Sochi considered the petition of the investigation to select a preventive measure in the form of detention against a resident of Krasnodar, suspected of committing a crime under part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation … The court decided to satisfy the petition and choose a measure of restraint in respect of the suspect in the form of detention for a period of 1 month 24 days, i.e. until August 14,» the report says.
As Kommersant reported, the leader of the Kuban branch of Citizens of the USSR* Melikhova was sentenced in March 2021 to 3.5 years in prison in a colony-settlement.
