Baza and Fontanka: a case on the rehabilitation of Nazism was opened against the former associate professor of St. Petersburg State University, who was fired due to his anti-war position

Associate Professor of the Institute of History of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU) Mikhail Belousov was charged with the rehabilitation of Nazism because of his words about the falsification of history related to the Great Patriotic War. This was reported by Baza and Fontanka without citing sources.

According to investigators, on February 22, during a meeting of the student council, the teacher «publicly denied the facts established by the verdict of the International Military Tribunal.» Also, as Baza and Fontanka report, he spoke about the falsification of history. Readovka has released what it claims are excerpts from the February 22 meeting. “If Vladimir Vladimirovich wants to unleash a civil war in the country, then let us ban Russian historiography,” the associate professor says in the video.

The Baza Telegram channel writes that the criminal case was opened on June 26. The Investigative Committee has not yet confirmed this information. In a conversation with Fontanka, the associate professor noted that he knew nothing about the case.

In early June, Belousov was fired from St. Petersburg State University, because, according to the administration of the university, he «discredited» the army, and also distributed materials «insulting the memory of those who died in the line of military duty.» The reason for the conflict was the historian's messages, screenshots of which appeared in public after the news of the death of a St Petersburg University student Fyodor Solomonov in the war in Ukraine. The teacher wrote that «the direct and open approval of rashism is disgusting.»

The security forces then drew up a protocol against Belousov under the article on «discrediting» the army (part 1 of article 20.3.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) because of statements made in October last of the year. However, the court did not fine him, due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for the administrative case.

Two days later, the St Petersburg University commission examined the cases of ten students who opposed the war and decided that their statements were «incompatible with the status of a student.» Later, three sources at the university told Paper about the expulsion of seven students.
