Google ordered to pay more than 4 billion rubles due to non-payment of a fine for blocking Russian TV channels on YouTube

The World Court of the Presnensky district of Moscow fined Google more than four billion rubles due to non-payment of a fine previously imposed by the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS). This was reported by the press service of the FAS.

As specified in the department, the fine is equal to the amount of twice the amount that Google was ordered to pay due to «opaque, biased and unpredictable» blocking of YouTube accounts. Then the company was found guilty of «abuse of a dominant position in the market» (part 2 of article 14.31 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

Google has already imposed turnover fines before. At the end of 2021, the company was fined 7.2 billion rubles for refusing to remove content banned in Russia at the request of the authorities. Six months later, Google was assigned another negotiable fine of 21.7 billion rubles under the same article.

In the spring, the Russian representative office of Google began bankruptcy proceedings due to the arrest of accounts. Despite this, the bailiffs, at the request of the courts, also began to block money on the accounts of the Russian office of the company due to claims by TV channels due to blocking on YouTube. By April last year, a billion rubles had been collected from the representative office in favor of the Tsargrad TV channel and a December negotiable fine of 7.2 billion rubles.
