DONETSK, June 28 To US officials and unfriendly countries need time to come to terms and admit the truth that the inhabitants of the Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, wanted to become part of Russia, said DPR Senator Natalya Nikonorova.
Earlier, former US President Barack Obama said in an interview with CNN that many Russian-speaking residents of Crimea supported the idea of joining the peninsula to Russia in 2014. According to him, there was «a certain sympathy for the ideas represented by Russia» in Crimea.
Commenting on this statement, Nikonorova drew attention to the voting of the inhabitants of the new territories in referendums.
““In Crimea, Obama’s words have already been called a belated recognition of the truth. I assure you that the truth will be recognized in any case, including in relation to the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as in the case of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions… This is the truth, because everyone saw how people voted in referendums, and it's hard to hide,» the senator said.
Nikonorova added that now US officials, as well as those states that work with them in one bundle, are working against Russia and therefore do not recognize this truth. «The truth will find its confirmation. We have no doubt that everything will be recognized regarding our republics,» the member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation concluded.
