The prosecutor of the Republic of Chuvashia, Andrey Fomin, died while swimming across the Volga in Cheboksary, the regional prosecutor's office reported.
“I confirm the fact, but there are no details yet,” a representative of the department told RBC. Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov expressed condolences in connection with the death of Fomin.
Earlier, Shot and Baza wrote that the prosecutor died during the swim. According to telegram channels, 57-year-old Fomin participated in the annual swim called Chebswim not for the first time, today he was supposed to swim 2.2 kilometers, but he became ill at half the distance. Mash claims that Fomin did not swim 150 meters to the shore «presumably due to strong currents.»
The website of the event states that all participants must provide medical certificates before the competition.
From 2014, Fomin worked for six years as deputy prosecutor of the annexed Crimea, in 2020 he was appointed head of the Chuvash prosecutor's office.
