MOSCOW, July 3 The Bank of Russia plans to bring the cards of the domestic Mir payment system to five or six new countries this year, she said in an interview with Izvestia Alla Bakina, Director of the National Payment System Department of the Central Bank.

"The situation is different from country to country. There are states that are afraid of secondary measures and listen to the sanctions policy. But there are those who are ready to cooperate and are not afraid to talk about it. We are working on expanding the list of countries where the «Mir» card would be accepted. In our plans — to bring the cards "Mir" into five or six new countries in 2023,” Bakina said.
At the same time, according to her, the market is moving in this direction on its own.

The Mir card is being introduced to Cuba with confidence, the newspaper's interlocutor added.
«Now the Cuban side is setting up POS-terminals. We are following the plan with them: this summer the cards will work in the entire POS-terminal network of Cuba. We are sure that this will be convenient for our tourists. Naturally, the Cuban side is also interested in developing such relations: this is a contribution to tourism, which is developing very actively in the country,» Bakina said.
She also noted the active development of the use of FPS for international payments. Bakina admitted that there are not as many operations as we would like, but the process is underway. For example, in May there were twice as many transfers as in April.
She noted that transfers from Russia abroad are still available, but participants are also working on the possibility of transferring from abroad to the country. Today, five Russian banks already offer a cross-border transfer service through the SBP with the participation of 15 foreign partner banks from three countries, the source concluded.
