MOSCOW, July 3 The Zen platform is changing the monetization system: now authors will be paid not for the activity of subscribers on the channel, as it was before, but for the time they watch content from all users, the site's press service reported.
«Zen» will launch an updated monetization for authors. From August 1, the platform will start paying for the time of viewing content — both from channel subscribers and from all users. The updated monetization will reward bloggers who create engaging content and increase the amount of time users consciously spend on Zen.
Since the spring of 2022, the authors of the platform have received money for active subscribers: advertising income was distributed among content creators, it depended on how many users subscribed to the channel and how active they were. Moreover, the remuneration for one user could differ, because subscribers saw different advertising messages. «For the authors, these factors were not transparent, and they could not influence them,» the press service explained.
In the new monetization system, creators will receive money for the time users spend watching or reading their content, regardless of whether they are subscribed to the channel. Time will be calculated in minutes of «engaged» viewing. The longer users watch the video and read the articles of the author, the more he will earn.
The watch time indicator will appear in the author's personal account, it will replace the previous counter and will take into account the user's involvement in the content. The payout fund is formed from Zen's daily advertising revenue. «The total amount of payments to authors remains unchanged, only its distribution changes,» the release clarified.
«For authors with monetization already enabled, nothing changes until the end of 2023. That is, from August 1, they will automatically switch to new payment terms for the involved viewing time, but the new threshold for receiving monetization does not apply to them yet», — added in the company.
