ASTANA, Jul 4 President of Kazakhstan Kassym- Zhomart Tokayev at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday said that Kazakhstan, which is chairing the organization, proposes to adopt a new strategy for the development of the SCO and has already developed a draft of this document.
«I think the time has come to adopt a new development strategy for the Shanghai Organization cooperation. Kazakhstan has developed a draft of this document and plans to present it within the framework of its forthcoming chairmanship,» the head of Kazakhstan said. According to him, the new strategy is designed to expand the SCO agenda in the most promising areas of cooperation.
«Further improvement of the organization's activities will be an important step in effectively responding to new challenges and adapting the SCO to modern realities. I propose for the next summit in Astana accept the concept of strengthening the potential of the SCO,” he added.
Tokayev also stressed that at a new stage of development in joint work to strengthen the potential of the SCO, “we should in every possible way distance ourselves from problems of a bilateral nature, and direct all efforts to implementation of existing agreements. «The SCO should continue to be associated precisely with mutual understanding, cooperation in the name of the long-term interests of our peoples,» the Kazakh leader noted.
Tokayev also proposed creating a council of permanent representatives to the SCO, empowering them to fully represent the interests of the participating states.
«We must have our own vision of the future of a just and harmonious world, confidently follow the path of inclusive development and creative progress based on mutual responsibility and solidarity,» he concluded.
