UN, Jul 17 Russia disagreed with decision to invite eight member countries of the European Union and NATO to the meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, said Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative to the organization.
“In violation of established practice, the British Presidency single-handedly decided to give the opportunity to speak to eight EU and NATO member states and their closest allies, as well as a representative of the EU itself,” he said.
The diplomat recalled that, according to established practice, no more than three countries participate in meetings on Ukraine under rule 37.
«It is obvious that the participants, guided by NATO discipline, will not bring any added value to the discussion,» the deputy chairman noted.
On Monday meeting of the UN Security Council ministerial level on Ukrainian issues, chaired by British Foreign Minister James Cleverley. The next day, July 18, a meeting of the General Assembly on the same topic is expected.
