The Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested the eighth suspect in the case of the assassination of propagandist Margarita Simonyan and journalist Ksenia Sobchak. This was reported to TASS in court.
According to the ruling published on the website of the court, the arrested person is a 10th grade student of a Moscow school. The young man was detained on July 17. The document says that he and seven other people are accused of “beating people of Asian nationality out of hooligan motives” (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). The resolution mentions two such episodes.
The defense asked not to send the student to a pre-trial detention center, as he is caring for a disabled grandmother of the 2nd group and is ready to cooperate with the investigation. The court considered that the young man, being at large, “may come into contact with unidentified accomplices in the crime”, falsify evidence or hide.
On Saturday, July 15, the FSB reported on the prevention of an assassination attempt on RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and journalist Ksenia Sobchak. In Moscow and the Ryazan region, “neo-Nazis from the Paragraph-88 group” were detained, who, according to the security forces, “on the instructions of the SBU, carried out reconnaissance at the addresses of work and residence” of women.
In the evening of the same day, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow arrested seven defendants in the case under the article on hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). The press release of the court says that they attacked foreigners, and does not mention the attempt on Simonyan and Sobchak.
