MOSCOW, 23 Jul. U.S. President Joe Biden more than 30 years ago, when he was a senator, made a «striking» prediction that by 2020 he would «not be alive,» writes the New York Post. At the meeting, Biden, while still a Delaware senator, spoke to students about the importance of electing US Supreme Court justices who serve for life.
According to him, the decisions of the elected justices will affect what happens in the country «long after the departure of Senator Biden, President Bush, after the Reagan administration is forgotten.»
«If Justice (David. — Ed.) Souter lives, God willing, as long as now is the average age of judges, he will make landmark decisions in 2020. I will most likely die,» the current American leader said at the time.
As the NYP notes, Biden was wrong in both cases: Judge Sauter resigned in 2009, and he himself is alive and became president of the country. At the same time, the head of the White House probably would not have been able to predict the emerging questions about his mental and physical fitness for work in the highest post that he is now facing, the publication concludes.
