Investigators have charged a resident of Ulan-Ude, who was detained a few days ago in another case of damaging a bust of a Soviet military man, with preparing an arson on a railway. This was reported by the press service of the Department of the Investigative Committee for Buryatia.
The monument to Sergei Oreshkov, installed in the park named after him, was doused with black paint on July 6. The FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs officers participated in the search, and three weeks later, yesterday, the security forces announced the arrest of a suspect — a 46-year-old unemployed man who lived in a suburban village.
According to the security forces, in June a man received an offer in a messenger to spoil the monument «for a monetary reward in foreign currency.» Baza and the Telegram channel Shot associated with Life.ru called his name — this is Sayan Zarikuev. According to them, it was about one hundred dollars.
The Investigative Committee claims that it also found Zarikuev’s July correspondence in a telegram about “a new task, according to which [he] was actively preparing to set fire to a relay cabinet on an iron road.» The press release was accompanied by a photo of a phone with open correspondence. The name of the addressee was blurred on it.
The owner of the Telegram account, which is attributed to Zarikuev, sent a dark photo — the security forces blurred it before publication. An unnamed interlocutor in response clarifies whether «this is the final goal that he (Zarikuev — MZ) will work on.» The owner of the phone confirms this and notes that there are «few cameras» and «there is where to run.» Other evidence, except for correspondence, was not mentioned in the release.
As a result, against the resident of Ulan-Ude, in addition to the case of insulting the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland (part 3 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code), a case was opened on preparation for sabotage (part 1 article 30, part 1 article 281 of the Criminal Code). The investigators are going to demand that Zarikuev be sent to a pre-trial detention center.
