MOSCOW, July 28 Provocations are being prepared at the election polling stations on a single voting day, in order to create the “necessary” picture for the foreign press, attempts are already being made to discredit elections in Russia and pressure on members of election commissions from non-governmental organizations, said Andrey Alshevsky, deputy head of the State Duma commission on investigating the facts of interference of foreign states in the internal affairs of Russia .
“Foreign agents, undesirable extremist organizations are increasingly distributing destructive content. There have also been cases of pressure on voters and members of election commissions by non-governmental organizations, on which the commission sent appeals to law enforcement agencies. According to available information, a provocation is being prepared at polling stations in order to create «necessary» picture for foreign media,» Alshevsky said at the Russia-Africa summit as part of the topic «Electoral systems in the face of challenges to electoral sovereignty: legislation and technology.»
According to him, attempts are already being made by unfriendly states «to discredit the decision of the Central Election Commission to call elections in the new constituent entities of the Russian Federation.»
“As the voting day approaches, external forces are increasingly exaggerating the themes of the alleged illegitimacy of the elections. The large-scale election campaign is used by them as an excuse to discredit the political system and is aimed at undermining the foundations of the constitutional order of Russia and its security,” he specified.
Alshevskikh recalled that in order to promptly respond to violations of the law, the commission organized the work of a monitoring group on the eve of the elections.
“However, neither I nor my colleagues on the commission, the committee and the State Duma as a whole have no doubt that no one will succeed in discrediting our country. Russian society will once again demonstrate maturity and will not succumb to provocations West,» he said.
Single voting day in 2023 in Russia is scheduled for September 10. Presidential elections in Russia are scheduled for the spring of 2024.
