
NEW DELHI, Jul 30 The congress of the party «Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam» («Assembly of Islamic clerics») in the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has grown to 35, more than 80 people were injured, according to Dawn, citing representatives of emergency services.
It is reported that the explosion occurred around 16.00 local time (14.00 Moscow time) inside the building during the congress. The police have not yet said what caused the explosion.
Party leader Hafiz Hamdullah said that he was also supposed to attend the congress, but could not because of personal reasons. He noted that he condemned the explosion, called the incident «terrorism» and called on the leadership of the country and the province to launch an investigation into the incident.
He also called on party supporters to donate blood to help victims of the explosion.
Chairman of the «Pakistani People's Party», Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the federal and provincial governments should bring to justice the accomplices of terrorists. Expressing his sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, Zardari noted that the organizers of terrorism must be eliminated.
