"Tour in Japan of the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov under the leadership of Konstantin Khabensky are scheduled for May 2024. This year the theater is celebrating its 125th anniversary, and next year another memorable date falls — the 120th anniversary of the death of the great Russian writer and playwright Anton Pavlovich Chekhov,» Ovechko said.
The tour can take place as part of the festival of Russian culture in Japan, which opens on Friday.
The Festival of Russian Culture in Japan has been held since 2006, during which time more than 18 million people have visited it. More than 500 events were held as part of the program: concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events — in all 47 prefectures of Japan, and more than 11 thousand Russian cultural figures took part in them. From 2021 until his tragic death, the Japanese organizing committee was headed by former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
