MOSCOW , Aug 10 Russian cosmonauts Sergei Prokopiev and Dmitry Petelin returned to the International Space Station after 6 hours and 35 minutes of work in outer space, broadcast by Roscosmos.
The exit began exactly at the estimated time — at 17.45 Moscow time on August 9th. After work, Prokopiev and Petelin closed the hatch at 00.20 on 10 August. Initially, it was assumed that the duration of the output will be 6 hours and 45 minutes.
After exiting the hatch of the Poisk module, the cosmonauts headed for the Rassvet module. There they installed three anti-meteoroid screens in places that had been vacated earlier after the radiation heat exchanger and airlock were transferred to the Nauka module.
Previously, they prepared the workplace for transfer — they released it from the grip locks and installed an adapter, with which they fixed the workplace on the ERA manipulator arm. During the transfer, the cosmonauts outside the station only watched the process, the manipulator was controlled by another Russian cosmonaut Andrei Fedyaev inside the ISS.
Then the cosmonauts moved to the «Science» module, where they tested a portable workplace. To do this, Prokopiev secured his boots on the anchor of this device, and Fedyaev «rolled» him. After checking the operability, the cosmonauts put the workplace into storage on the UFP-1 passive fixation device on the Nauka module.
For Prokopiev and Petelin, this is already the sixth joint spacewalk during the flight, which began on September 21, 2022. During the previous flight, Prokopiev had already worked twice outside the station. According to the Russian ISS program, this was the 70th exit (60th planned). In the entire history of Soviet and Russian cosmonautics, Prokopyev and Petelin have already performed the 170th spacewalk.
