MOSCOW, Aug 11Moscow predicts the creation of new payment card systems that will not depend on the financial architecture of Western countries, said Dmitry Birichevsky, director of the department for economic cooperation at the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“At the same time, we are developing cooperation with friendly countries in the field of payment systems. I would like to emphasize that at this stage we are interacting with partners through national financial regulators. uninterrupted global economic ties and additional opportunities for settlements of individuals,» he said in an interview with the agency.
According to Birichevsky, this work is carried out systematically, many technical issues need to be addressed.
“In addition, we are working on establishing direct correspondent relations between Russian and foreign credit institutions, as well as creating the necessary amount of cash liquidity in the relevant currency pairs. Since last year, the Moscow Exchange has been trading in the national currencies of all EAEU member states, and «Sales are steadily growing,» he added.
A number of Russia's largest banks, including Sberbank and VTB, came under blocking sanctions from some Western countries. Such restrictions involve blocking the assets of banks in these countries and prohibiting residents of these countries from doing business with them.
The Russian Federation has repeatedly stated that the country will cope with the sanctions pressure that the West began to exert on Russia several years ago and continues to increase. Moscow noted that the West lacks the courage to acknowledge the failure of sanctions against the Russian Federation. In the Western countries themselves, opinions have been heard more than once that anti-Russian sanctions are ineffective. Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously said that the policy of containing and weakening Russia is a long-term strategy for the West, and sanctions have dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy. According to him, the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
