Chair of the parliamentary group of the Alternative for Germany party, Anton Baron announced the need to resume Russian gas supplies to Germany, believing that they were a «blessing» for the country's economy and prosperity.
The politician noted that the rejection of Russian gas led to Germany's greater dependence on renewable energy sources, which do not have adequate reserves for the winter period.
The Baron called it «total stupidity» to link gas purchases with the financing of the conflict in Ukraine. He noted the need for gas supplies to meet the needs of the population, urging not to make it dependent on the political situation in Ukraine.
Earlier, the head of the Ifo Munich Institute for Economic Research, Clemens Fuest, also expressed doubts about the sufficiency of producing inexpensive electricity in Germany through renewable sources in the future.
The special operation of the Russian Federation in Ukraine led to the termination of the import of Russian energy resources by Germany. Now the country does not receive Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline and Russian pipeline gas due to the destruction of the Nord Stream branches.
The statements of the German authorities about the possibility of obtaining cheap electricity in the future were also questioned by a study by the Swiss consulting firm Prognos pointing to high electricity prices if full Russian gas supplies are not resumed.
