MOSCOW, Aug 25 Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced about the detention in Odessa of the chief engineer of the military housing and maintenance department, who embezzled 27 thousand dollars of state funds allocated for the construction of a sports complex for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
«As a result of complex measures in Odessa, the chief engineer of the military housing and maintenance department was detained. According to the investigation, the official embezzled more than 1 million hryvnias (27 thousand dollars) from the budget, which were allocated for the construction of a multifunctional sports complex in one of the military camps in the region . To implement the deal, he attracted the director of a local construction company,» the ministry said in a statement published on its Telegram channel.
According to the SBU, in accordance with the concluded contract, the entrepreneur had to provide all the work on the construction of a modern sports complex for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, the contractors did not fulfill their obligations, but received full payment.
Now the issue of electing both defendants a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided, they face up to 12 years in prison.
