Construction of a polypropylene plant began in Tobolsk

TYUMEN, Aug 26 In Tobolsk, the first pile was installed at the base of the future plant for the production of polypropylene, it will become part of the existing ZapSibNeftekhim complex of SIBUR, Governor Alexander Moor said in his Telegram channel.
«We launched the construction of a complex for the production of polypropylene. This is already the third stage in the development of the polymer direction of petrochemicals in the ancient capital of Siberia. The launch of the project will increase the depth of processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, create products with high added value … The new production of polypropylene will strengthen the technological sovereignty of our country», Moor said.
The governor called the construction of a new production facility an important stage in the progressive development of the regional economy, noted that the project was supported by the Russian government, and assured that «the Tyumen region, for its part, will also provide assistance to the investor, primarily in the form of tax benefits.»
Nikolai Shulginov, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, who participated in the launch ceremony of the construction of the plant, stressed the importance of the project for the development of the petrochemical industry. «It will additionally involve liquefied petroleum gas in deep processing to create demanded petrochemical products with high added value. Expanding the range of polypropylene grades will help replace the import of large-tonnage polymers,» Shulginov said.

The preliminary cost of the project is estimated at 195 billion rubles, it will make maximum use of the existing infrastructure of ZapSibNeftekhim. The plant will create 370 jobs, and about two thousand more jobs will appear in related industries. Within ten years after the launch, the enterprise will transfer about one hundred billion rubles in taxes. After the implementation of the project, the volume of SIBUR's investments in the region's economy will exceed a trillion rubles, Moore noted.
The corporate communications service of ZapSibNeftekhim LLC reported that there is a growing demand in the country for solutions made from modern synthetic materials in various industries, including construction, medicine, packaging, and agriculture. With the implementation of the project, the production of polypropylene in Tobolsk will increase one and a half times — up to 1.5 million tons per year, according to Mikhail Karisalov, Chairman of the Board of SIBUR, this will ensure not only the existing demand for polypropylene, but also «the long-term needs of domestic processors in this polymer» .
