The Grani.ru publication announced the suspension of its work.
“Do not cling to the old brand, but rethink your own 23-year history and ask yourself a simple question: how is your project useful for [Ukraine's] victory in the war with Russia]? This is the least that is available to a Russian-language broadcaster, even if it seems to boast of a consistent editorial policy and a stable audience,” the message on the Graney.ru website says.
The editors noted that the relaunch of the publication «is possible only with a new team and a new program» dedicated to «the collapse of the empire, decolonization, the liberation struggle of the peoples of Russia.»
Grani.ru began work in December 2000. In March 2014, the publication’s website was blocked without a court decision under the “Lugovoy law”, which allows blocking websites with “calls for mass riots, extremist activities and participation in public actions unauthorized by the authorities.”
In the summer of 2020, the ECtHR recognized the blocking of Graney.ru as illegal and awarded the publication compensation in the amount of 10,000 euros.
