The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow fined political scientist Ekaterina Shulman 50 thousand rubles in the case of distributing materials without the “foreign agent” label (Part 4 of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code). Mediazona was informed about this by the press service of the court.
As a Mediazona correspondent reports, the consideration of the case took place without the participation of Shulman and her representatives. The reason for the administrative protocol was two publications in the telegram channel.
In the first post, dated May 28, the political scientist talked about Berlin, and the second, dated June 11, contained a repost from the channel of actress Tatyana Lazareva with a video. In the video, Shulman reported on a charity auction organized to help Ukrainian children and presented the lot she had put up.
The case against Shulman became known in early September, when the materials were registered by the court. Previously, the political scientist had already been prosecuted for violating “foreign agent” legislation — the first fine was imposed on her on August 19, 2022, her birthday.
The Ministry of Justice added Shulman to the register of “foreign agents” in April 2022, shortly before this she moved to live in Germany. The department justified its decision by the fact that the political scientist received money transfers from Echo of Moscow, Shaninka, the AST book publishing house, the Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design and the Vladimir Potanin charitable foundation. The Ministry of Justice considered these transfers to be “foreign funding.”
