MAKHACHKALA, September 21 Despite continuous attempts to explode the interethnic peace in Russia, the cohabitation of many ethnic groups, cultures, and religions is not a weakness, but a factor of overall strength, said Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
“For Russia, throughout its history, interethnic peace is, without exaggeration, the key issue of its statehood,” the politician said during the section “Interethnic, intercultural, interfaith interaction and good neighborliness of states and peoples” of the IX Forum “Historical and Cultural Heritage of Russia” in Dagestan .
According to Kosachev, the weakening of the unity of the country's nationalities led to the most difficult periods in our past, and, on the contrary, the unity of the people helped to withstand the most powerful blows from the outside, for centuries to create that state — civilization, which the updated Concept of Foreign Affairs calls Russia today Russian politics.
“Despite the ongoing attempts to explode interethnic peace in our country, today we consider the cohabitation of many ethnic groups, cultures, and religions on a vast territory not as our weakness, but as a factor of common strength. The preservation and strengthening of this peace is the subject of our special attention, changes in The Constitution of the Russian Federation, a number of current laws,” the legislator emphasized.
The senator also noted that only on the basis of a respectful attitude towards other cultures and languages can one avoid internal conflicts that can have catastrophic consequences, which can be observed in the Ukrainian example for almost a decade.
Kosachev considers it unacceptable to intensify persecution of foreign-speaking citizens of his country, to deprive them of their culture, the right to study and speak their native language.
“It’s absolutely monstrous to insult a common past: victories won shoulder to shoulder, great achievements that were created together, regardless of national differences,” the politician concluded.
