KRASNOYARSK, September 25 Twelve space satellites «Skif-D» will be manufactured within three years at the Krasnoyarsk enterprise JSC Information Satellite Systems named after Academician M.F. According to the department, this was stated on Monday by the Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Mikhail Kotyukov, during the presentation of the region’s stand at the international exhibition “Innoprom. Kazakhstan”. The stand was visited by the head of the Russian government, Mikhail Mishustin, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, and representatives of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan. Kotyukov introduced them to the advanced developments of regional enterprises and spoke about the Skif-D spacecraft, presented at the stand in its original size. The satellite was created to test new technical solutions for broadband Internet access and protect the orbital frequency resource of the Russian Federation.
“This is a fundamentally new technical solution, within the framework of which an entire satellite communication system is being created. A demonstration model is presented at the region’s stand, exactly the same one is working in orbit right now. We plan to produce 12 such devices by 2027,” the governor said.
He noted that Skif-D is the next generation of satellites, while all critical components are made in the country — in Krasnodar, Rostov, Tomsk, Moscow and Krasnoyarsk.
Skif-D became the first Russian satellite in an orbit at an altitude of 8 thousand kilometers. Compared to the geostationary orbit, this type of orbit has the advantage of transmitting a large amount of data with minimal time delays. The operation of the device will play an important role in creating a regular satellite system constellation that will provide high-speed Internet access in remote and hard-to-reach sparsely populated areas in Russia and beyond.
