The leader of Moldova accused Russia of preparing to interfere in the election results

CHISINAU, September 25 President of Moldova Maia Sandu expressed confidence that that Russia allegedly intends to interfere in the general local elections in the republic.
«»Unfortunately, I am sure that Russia will try to interfere in our elections, this happens not only in our country, it also happens in other countries where the state is stronger. We are preparing for this, all our institutions — the Central Election Commission, The Information and Security Service and other organizations that are responsible for security make sure that there is no bribery of voters, that the legislation on the financing of parties and campaigns is respected,” Sandu said on TV8.

She expressed the hope that the responsible institutions will take any cases of corruption very seriously.

The president also commented on the recent detention of several opposition deputies who are suspected of illegally financing the party.
«»This cannot be regarded as pressure on competitors. We have 60-odd parties, everyone has a choice, but everyone must comply with the law. If someone moves from one party to another because there are more pay, then this is no longer democracy,” added Sandu.

On September 21, the Moldovan prosecutor's office conducted searches of the acting chairman of the Revival party, Natalia Paraschi, and other members in the case of illegal financing of a political formation. Parliament deprived representatives of the political force Alexander Nesterovsky and Irina Lozovan of parliamentary immunity; they are suspected of corruption, as well as illegal financing of the political force with the participation of the leader of the Shor party, banned in Moldova, Ilan Shor. On Saturday, the Chisinau court chose a preventive measure for Nesterovsky in the form of arrest for 30 days in a pre-trial detention center, Lozovan — house arrest for 30 days. The lawyers intend to appeal the decision to the Appeals Chamber. Since last Friday, party members have been holding protests demanding the release of politicians.
The Revival Party regularly holds pickets at government departments, representative offices of countries and EU organizations to draw attention to problems within the country. In July, political forces launched a collection of signatures to recognize the ruling Action and Solidarity party as unconstitutional. At the end of August, the political formation also announced the launch of the process of collecting signatures for the republic to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
