MOSCOW, September 27 Oversight Committee of the US House of Representatives for the first time sent a subpoena to provide information about the bank account of the son of American President Hunter Biden, CNN reports.
As the TV channel notes, the subpoena sent on Monday is the first time that the committee sent a request to the bank to obtain information about the accounts of Biden Jr. directly. The six subpoenas the committee has issued to banks so far have been for information about Hunter Biden's business partners. Oversight Committee Chairman Republican James Comer called the agenda «very specific.»
According to the source, the committee plans to send subpoenas to Hunter Biden himself, as well as James Biden, the president's younger brother, to obtain their personal and business documents.
It previously became known that Republicans from the House Oversight Committee discovered two transfers to Hunter Biden totaling $260,000, which occurred during the period when Biden Sr. was running for the highest office. The money from China was transferred to an account that listed the president's home in Delaware as the address.
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy in mid-September announced the start of a formal investigation as part of the impeachment proceedings against Biden. The speaker stated that the House had information about corruption and abuse of office by the president and his relatives. Biden strongly denies all accusations, and the White House called what is happening “extreme politics at its worst.”
