Bulgaria has introduced a ban on the entry of cars with Russian license plates. As the head of the country's border police, Anton Zlatanov, said on Bulgarian National Television, it begins to operate today, October 2. The official’s words are quoted by 24 Hours.
“We worked very actively from Thursday until yesterday. I am sure that by the end of the day [Monday, October 2] a ban on the entry of Russian cars will come into force in Bulgaria,” Zlatanov said.

Whether exceptions will be made for cars of international organizations and diplomatic transport is not reported. The head of the Bulgarian border police also did not specify the criteria by which the ban would come into effect.
In early September, the European Commission published new clarifications on sanctions against Russia. Entering the territory of the European Union with cars purchased or registered in Russia can be considered as importing them, and this is prohibited by the eighth package of sanctions adopted in October 2022. At the same time, European officials emphasized that the authorities of each EU country must independently assess the situation at the borders and apply bans “proportionately and reasonably.”
