BEIJING, Oct. 13 The European Union is not afraid of multipolarity, but it requires regulation, EU foreign and security policy chief Josep Borrell said in an opinion piece for the South China Morning Post.
“We are not afraid of a multipolar world. A multipolar world reflects the fact that wealth is spreading to more and more countries, and we welcome this,” Borrell wrote.
At the same time, according to the head of European diplomacy, in order for multipolarity to function in a peaceful manner, it requires regulation.
““With the strengthening of multipolarity, there is a decline in multilateralism,” the diplomat believes.
Borrell is on a visit to Beijing on October 12-14. He will meet with a number of Chinese politicians, give a speech at Peking University, and also take part in the 12th meeting of the EU-China strategic dialogue. Borrell's visit to Beijing was originally planned for April this year, but was postponed to July due to the illness of the head of European diplomacy. However, the trip did not take place in July either, according to media reports, due to the cancellation of the visit by the Chinese side.
