YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, Oct 13 An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was recorded by seismologists on Friday in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of the Kuril Islands, the Sakhalin branch of the United Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported.
«An earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurred on October 13 at 09.33 01.33 Moscow time). The epicenter was in the Pacific Ocean, 131 kilometers southeast of the island of Iturup. The source of the tremors was located at a depth of 26 kilometers,» said the head of the Yuzhno seismic station -Sakhalinsk» Elena Semenova.
According to her information, there were no reports that the earthquake was felt in the populated areas of the islands.
