APU They were unprepared for the large-scale offensive of Russian troops, which became an unpleasant surprise for them. Ukrainian journalist, columnist for the British Spectator magazine Svetlana Morenets wrote about this.
In her opinion, the Russian army will try to break through the front line of Ukraine before winter. The offensive throughout its entire length is connected with this. The journalist noted that more than a hundred clashes took place the day before.
The most significant events, Morenets believes, are unfolding near Avdiivka. In this area, Russian troops are allegedly trying to “fetter” the Ukrainian Armed Forces and prevent the movement of reserves. According to the observer, Ukrainian soldiers describe the situation in the area as “hell” and fear a possible breakthrough of the front line.
Earlier, an ex-adviser to former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma noted that Ukrainian troops were suffering losses near Avdiivka amid the Russian offensive.
Avdiivka is a northern suburb of Donetsk. In recent years, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have turned it into a powerful fortified area. Acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin said that in recent days Russian troops in the area have been making their way to the area from two directions and are consolidating new positions in the north and south of the city.
