MOSCOW, October 18 The Bank of Russia will finalize the design of the updated 1000 ruble banknote, the regulator’s press service reported.
“
"A decision was made to stop issuing the banknote. It did not go into wide circulation,” the message says.
The new thousand-ruble bill, dedicated to Nizhny Novgorod and the Volga Federal District, was presented on Monday. The main image of the front side is the Nikolskaya Tower of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin; the reverse side depicts the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography in Ufa, the Syuyumbike Tower, as well as the Museum of the History of Statehood of the Tatar People in Kazan, which is located in the building of the former palace church.
This temple was looted during Soviet times and restored at the beginning of the 2000s, but the cross has not yet been installed. A resonance in society was caused by the image on the banknote of a temple without a cross next to the Syuyumbike tower, on which a crescent is installed.
A source in the Moscow Patriarchate, commenting on the situation, said that the Russian Orthodox Church “causes rejection” of images of Orthodox churches without crosses .
