
MOSCOW, October 19 Iranian police detained the main defendant in the murder case of 83-year-old famous Iranian director Daryush Mehrjui and his wife Wahide Mohammadifar, the detainee confessed , said Iranian police spokesman Saeed Montazer-ol-Mahdi.
““A few minutes ago, the main killer was identified, who was among those previously detained by the police… he confessed,” the Tasnim agency quotes Montazer-ol-Mahdi as saying.
A representative of the Iranian police explained that interrogations of the detainees continue in order to identify accomplices in the crime and clarify the hidden details of this case.
Mehrjui and his wife were found dead in their home in northern Iran last Sunday. The bodies, which were discovered by the daughter of the victims, had severe cuts and signs of beatings. According to the preliminary conclusion of forensic experts, the death of the couple occurred as a result of strangulation. Earlier, Iranian media reported the detention of 10 suspects.
Mehrjui is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, film producer, editor, academician of the Iranian Academy of Arts. He studied at the University of California at the theater department, his teacher was the famous French film director Jean Renoir.
