Judge Tatyana Babenkova of the Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow imposed a fine of 50 thousand rubles on oppositionist Maxim Katz in an administrative case. The press service of the court reported this to Mediazona.
Katz was found guilty of failure to provide a report on the activities of a “foreign agent” (Part 2 of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code). The Justice Department recognized Katz as a “foreign agent” in July 2022. In the column on funding sources, the department indicated Ukraine.
Previously, the oppositionist was fined twice due to the lack of the “foreign agent” label in his publications. Katz has been wanted since last fall; in March he was arrested in absentia.
In August, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow sentenced Katz in absentia to eight years in prison in the case of military “fakes” (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). According to investigators, on April 3 last year, he posted a video on his YouTube channel about the murders of Bucha residents.
Witness Leonid Svyatodukh, employee of the Center for Search Work and Historical and Cultural Tourism MPGU, said that November 25, 2022 “returned from the army», so he was interested in all the videos about the events in Bucha. That's how he came across Katz's video. In his opinion, the information in the video is unreliable, since “the video itself is poorly argued.”
