RTEL AVIV, Nov 9. Army Israel is ready to act on both sides of the border with Lebanon if necessary, said former Israeli Defense Minister and current member of the country's emergency government Benny Gantz.
“We are determined to defend our northern border on both sides if necessary. Not now or In the future, we will not allow Hezbollah to threaten our settlements, and if (Hezbollah leader Hassan) Nasrullah makes a mistake, there will be consequences for both Hezbollah and the State of Lebanon. We will make sure that the people of the north return to their home and felt safer,” Gantz said during a trip to the north of the country.
In recent weeks, the Israeli military and the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah have regularly exchanged fire. Earlier, the acting head of the Lebanese government, Najib Mikati, said that the authorities are working to maintain a calm situation within the country amid the escalation between Israel and the Gaza Strip.
Last week, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrullah said that the likelihood of a large-scale war with Israel is real. The movement's secretary general announced general readiness for any changes on the Lebanese front with Israel, noting that “all scenarios are possible.”
