“For Germany, the fight against money laundering is a key priority. Frankfurt, as the largest financial center in continental Europe and the headquarters of the ECB, is the ideal location for the creation of the new European anti-money laundering body AMLA,” said Lindner, whose words quoted by the German Ministry of Finance.
Together with the new body based in Frankfurt am Main, the EU will quickly achieve its goal of becoming a world leader in the fight against money laundering, he said.
The application is supported by the mayor of Frankfurt am Main, Mike Joseph, and the government of the federal state of Hesse, in which Frankfurt is located.
Spain has previously proposed placing the AMLA headquarters in Madrid.
