Politician Ilya Yashin was transferred from Moscow pre-trial detention center No. 4 to Smolensk pre-trial detention center No. 1. Lawyer Mikhail Biryukov spoke about this.
It is still unknown in which colony the oppositionist will serve his sentence.
In December 2022, 40-year-old Ilya Yashin was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison from -for a live broadcast on YouTube, during which the politician spoke about the killings of civilians by the Russian military in the Ukrainian city of Bucha. This was considered to be spreading “fake news” about the actions of the Russian army (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code).
Yashin did not admit guilt; in his last word he called for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. In the spring, the decision came into force after the Moscow City Court rejected the oppositionist’s appeal against the verdict.
