She clarified that the decision will affect all employees of the mayor’s office.
A similar decision was announced by the leadership of the Istanbul district of Umraniye, where they also banned the sale of goods of Israeli origin in state canteens. In addition, the city halls of the cities of Battalgazi in the east and Corum in northern Turkey switched to the Troy system — the decision affected two thousand employees, and the mayor of Corum, Ibrahim Ashgin, called Visa and Mastercard “supporting Zionism.” Employees of the Office of Religious Affairs will also transfer to Troy, a transition that will take about two weeks.
The Troy system began providing services in 2016, and currently about 19 million cards have been issued by 55 banks in Turkey. Outside the country, the card is accepted in 185 countries. According to the company, the volume of card transactions increased in October to 47.9 billion liras from 30.5 billion in September.
