ST. PETERSBURG, November 5. Outstanding conductor Yuri Temirkanov was buried on Sunday at the Komarovskoye cemetery near St. Petersburg, the Academic Philharmonic reported named after Shostakovich.
Artistic director of the St. Petersburg Shostakovich Philharmonic, honorary citizen of St. Petersburg Yuri Temirkanov died on Thursday at the age of 85. Farewell to Temirkanov took place on Sunday in the Great Hall of the Philharmonic.
“The funeral took place,” said the agency’s interlocutor, answering the corresponding question.
From 1988 to 2022, Temirkanov headed the Honored Ensemble of Russia Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic in the status of artistic director and chief conductor; in January 2022, he left the post of chief conductor, retaining the position of artistic director orchestra. He has made numerous recordings with the Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the National Danish Radio Orchestra. All the ballets of Igor Stravinsky and all the symphonies of Pyotr Tchaikovsky were recorded with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Temirkanov.
