Callum Skye: light and fast all-terrain electric coupe from the UK

The British company Callum, founded in 2019 by former chief designer of the Jaguar brand Ian Callum, announced its first completely independent project — a multifunctional all-terrain electric sports car Skye, it will cost around £100,000.

Scotsman Ian Callum worked at Jaguar for 20 years and, in fact, is the author of the design of the entire modern line of models of the British brand. In 2019, on the eve of big changes at Jaguar, Callum left JLR and, together with like-minded people, founded his own design studio, Callum, in Warwick, England, which has a factory for the production of prototypes and small-scale cars. During its short history, Callum has already presented several interesting projects (not only automotive ones), including the Aston Martin Vanquish 25 restomod and the “ideal interior of the car of 2030.” Callum participated in the development of the interior design of the Prodrive Hunter off-road supercar and the appearance of the Nyobolt electric sports car, but now it’s time for the first completely independent project, called Skye.

The Callum Skye looks like a buggy, but the company itself does not use this word and calls the Skye a “high-performance all-wheel drive all-terrain electric vehicle.” This means that, unlike the buggy, the Callum Skye can be used both on rough terrain and on public roads, although in the future there may be a hardcore version designed exclusively for off-road use.

The Callum Skye is based on a space frame made of steel and carbon fiber; the company promises an ideal weight distribution (50/50) and a curb weight of 1150 kg with an all-electric and fairly powerful power plant, which will allow the all-terrain sports car to accelerate to the first “hundred” in about 4 p.

The power and other parameters of the power plant have not yet been disclosed, but the known battery capacity is only 42 kWh, the range on one charge will be about 270 km. The Callum team didn't want to use a larger battery, wanting to make the Skye light and nimble, and the battery could be fully charged in just 10 minutes. Apparently, the battery will be supplied by Nyobolt, although the press release does not directly say this.

Overall length of Callum Skye is 4047 mm, width is 1900 mm. The design of the interior has not yet been revealed, it is only known that, unlike the buggy interior, it is completely isolated from the environment and has a 2+2 seating formula, and, judging by the renderings, the rear seats can be folded, the rear window can be removed and the Skye can be turned into a pickup truck for transporting bicycles or any other large sports equipment.

So far Callum Skye exists exclusively in the form of renderings, the British company promises to show a live car in the spring of next year, at which time detailed technical specifications will be announced. According to the British magazine Autocar, Callum will produce only about 50 copies of the Skye, the price will be around £100,000.
