In early November, the Malaysian company Proton began mass production of a four-door with the S70 index, and then the first information was revealed. And now the sedan has been completely declassified, and sales have started in its homeland. Let us remind you that for several years now Proton has been under the control of the “heavenly” holding Geely Auto, and the latest models of the brand are made from “Chinese”. Thus, the crossovers Proton X50, Proton X70 and Proton X90 are nothing more than Geely Binyue/Coolray, Geely Boyue/Atlas and Geely HaoYue/Okavango, respectively. Well, the donor for the Proton S70 sedan was the current generation Geely Emgrand, which just arrived in Russia.

The four-doors are built on the same BMA platform as the Proton X50 and Geely Coolray SUVs. At the same time, the Proton S70 sedan is for some reason shorter, narrower and taller than the original; it is also inferior to the Gili model in terms of wheelbase size. Dimensions of the “Malaysian”: 4602/1809/1466 mm, distance between the axles – 2627 mm. Dimensions of Geely Emgrand: 4638/1822/1460 mm, wheelbase — 2650 mm. The trunk volume of the “seventy”, alas, is not named; the figure for our Emgrand is 500 liters.
And the S70 has completely different technology. If the Geely Emgrand in all markets, including Russia, has a 1.5 naturally aspirated four-cylinder gasoline engine (in our version it produces 122 hp), then the Malaysian sedan is equipped with a 1.5 turbocharged engine with 150 hp. By the way, such an engine is also installed on the local cross-country Proton X50. The Proton four-door only has a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, while the Emgrand, depending on the country, can have a manual, CVT or a classic six-speed automatic.

Externally, the Proton S70 sedan differs from its Chinese donor in the design of its front end: it has its own radiator grille with a dot pattern instead of vertical stripes. In addition, the emblem and nameplates were replaced. Inside there is a new steering wheel and a two-story central tunnel (the Geely Emgrand has a solid tunnel).

The list of equipment for the basic Proton S70 includes halogen headlights, air conditioning, a multimedia system with an 8-inch screen, six airbags and cruise control. The top version has LED optics, virtual tidy, multimedia with a 12.3-inch screen, wireless charging, climate control, all-round cameras, a sunroof, adaptive cruise, auto braking and lane keeping systems.

In terms of our money, the Proton S70 sedan will cost about 1 411,000 – 1,813,000 rubles (at the current exchange rate). For comparison, a Honda City there costs somewhere from 1,623,000 rubles, and the price of a new Toyota Vios sedan starts at 1,713,000 rubles. Later, the Proton S70 will be exported: in particular, Protons are supplied to Africa.
