TIRASPOL, December 1 Head of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (PMR) ) Vadim Krasnoselsky believes that the Moldovan authorities historically do not have the right to lay claim to Transnistria.
As the press service of the Pridnestrovian leader reported, he stated this on Friday during an open lesson — “Historical and legal foundations for the international recognition of Pridnestrovie” for schoolchildren and students.
“We didn’t come there, but they, Bessarabia, were annexed to us, making the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic — MSSR,” Krasnoselsky said, recalling the fact of the creation of the union Moldavian SSR in 1940 by uniting Bessarabia and the Moldavian Autonomous SSR .
«Bessarabia was annexed to the first republic in Transnistria — the MASSR, and not vice versa, this is an important point,» the head of the PMR emphasized.
According to Krasnoselsky, this historical event explains that today's Moldova cannot lay claim to Transnistria. Moreover, in 1990 Chisinau declared the creation of the MSSR illegal, thereby abandoning a common state with Transnistria.
Transnistria, 60% of whose residents are Russian and Ukrainian, sought secession from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that on the wave of nationalism Moldova would join Romania. In 1992, after a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem by force, Transnistria became a territory virtually beyond the control of Chisinau.
