The LDPR Congress nominated Slutsky as a presidential candidate

MOSCOW, December 19 Delegates to the LDPR congress supported the nomination of Leonid Slutsky as a candidate for the presidential elections in Russia in 2024, the correspondent reports.
Slutsky became chairman of the party in May last year. Shortly before this, he headed the LDPR faction in the State Duma. This happened after the deputies terminated the powers of Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who died on April 6, 2022 at the age of 76 after a serious and long illness.
The LDPR congress is taking place on the territory of Crocus Expo.

The Federation Council has scheduled Russian presidential elections for March 17, 2024. The Central Election Commission adopted a resolution according to which voting will last three days — from March 15 to 17.

The current head of state, Vladimir Putin, announced his participation in the elections last week. Prior to this, he was elected to the presidency four times: in 2000, 2004, 2012 and 2018. After the adoption of amendments to the Constitution, he received the right to stand as a candidate in 2024.
