Russian theoretical physicist, author of works on gravity and cosmology, who worked at the Landau Institute of Theoretical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Alexey Starobinsky died on Thursday at 76 years of age.

The scientist passed away at the age of 76

Aleksey Alexandrovich was born in Moscow on April 19, 1948 in the family of radio physicists Alexander Starobinsky and Natalia Kerzhentseva.

After graduating from eleven-year physics and mathematics school No. 5 in 1966, he entered the physics department of Moscow State University. The scientist's area of scientific interests was classical and quantum theory of gravity, cosmology, relativistic astrophysics.

Together with Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich, who was his teacher at one time, he proved that rotating black holes should generate and emit particles. In 1979, Starobinsky proposed a theory of accelerated expansion of the Universe at an early stage, which is still considered the most realistic. He also stated that during the expansion stage, gravitational waves arise.
