Police in Saratov detained a suspect in the arson of the local “museum of the history of the Northern Military District.” This was reported in the telegram channel of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to a press release from the security forces, a case of terrorism has been opened (Part 1 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code). The detainee was a 21-year-old resident of the Samara region. Earlier, the Astra telegram channel wrote that his name is Maxim Kim, the Tsargrad TV channel clarified that he is a native of Tolyatti.
Saratov editions of the building “Version of Saratov” and “SarBC” also published a video with the detainee. In the video, the young man says that on December 20, an unknown person called him, introducing himself as a law enforcement officer, and told him that scammers were trying to take out a loan on him.
After this, the Tolyatti resident received a call again — this time the callers introduced themselves as employees of the Central Bank, persuaded him to take out a loan for 190 thousand rubles and transfer the money to a “safe account”. Later, the caller added that in order to get the funds back, the “SVO museum” needs to be set on fire.
“The fear that I have loans, that my girlfriend also fell under this distribution because of me, [all this] brought upon me fear, and I decided to fulfill all the conditions,” the detainee says in the video.
The fire in the “Museum of the History of the Northern Military District,” which is located on Moskovskaya Street, 94, occurred early in the morning of December 21 — a bottle was thrown at the door of the building with an incendiary mixture. On the same day, a video of the fire was published by the Ukrainian telegram channel “Nikolaevsky Vanek”. The Saratov authorities opened the museum itself at the end of July this year.
