The Alatyrsky District Court of Chuvashia sentenced Nikita Kitaikin to one year and six months of forced labor in the case of about attempted arson on the railway. Mediazona was informed about this in court.
The verdict was handed down on October 31. A tenth of the convicted person’s income will be withheld in favor of the state.
As the Solidarity Zone wrote in May, Kitaikin, according to investigators, drove two other defendants in this case — Artem Begoyan and Denis Golubev — to the railway and did not know about their plans. They, according to security officials, set fire to relay and battery cabinets in Chuvashia last December. Another person is accused in the case — Vadim Filyankin. His role in the group is unknown.
The Baza Telegram channel wrote in winter, without specifying a source, that the arson was organized through a telegram chat, where administrators from Ukraine offered to “carry out terrorist attacks in Russia for money.” First, all four were detained and sent to a pre-trial detention center on charges of destruction of property (Part 2 of Article 167 of the Criminal Code). In the fall, it became known that Golubev’s case was submitted to a military court; he was accused of a terrorist attack (clause “a” of part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code).
Arrested in the case, Artem Begoyan in March refused the services of lawyer Adel Khaidarshin, who collaborates with the Solidarity Zone. He said that he did this after FSB officers threatened to take him “to the forest” and “make life difficult” in the detention center. At the same time, human rights activists were able to continue to receive information about Begoyan’s case from another lawyer.
In May, the Solidarity Zone announced that it would stop supporting the young man. As human rights activists explained, they learned that the arrested person had entered into a pre-trial agreement with the investigation. After repeated visits by lawyers, the project found out that Begoyan “in the absence of pressure, adheres to the position of cooperation with the investigation, testifies against other defendants.”
The wardrobe is on fire. More than 65 people have already been detained in cases of sabotage on railways in Russia, every third is a minor.
