Gallup: economic expectations are falling in the West and improving in the East and South
Economic expectations are declining in the West and improving in the East and South, according to a global survey by the End of the Year international association of research agencies Gallup International.
Respondents from 40 countries took part in the study. As noted in the document, 26% of respondents around the world expect positive changes in the global economy, 39% hold the opposite point of view, 29% do not expect significant changes.
“That is, economic negativism prevails in the world, as does in previous years. At the same time, pessimism is condensed to the greatest extent in the West,” write Gallup researchers
The study notes that in none of the European countries (except Albania and Kosovo) do positive sentiments prevail, and the list of “optimists” mainly countries of the East and the global South. For example, the highest indicator is in Saudi Arabia, where the “economic hope index” was 78 points. In India, this indicator is 0, that is, the country has an equal number of economic optimists and pessimists,” experts calculated.
The most pessimistic are in Germany (index — 54), Canada (-36) and the USA (-22). As for Russia, two out of five 39% of Russians expect economic difficulties in the new year, 12% are positive. At the same time, the “index of economic hope» in Russia is growing, and during the pandemic years it reached a value of -42 points .
