Belarus introduces a new price regulation system

MINSK, December 29 Starting January 1 next year, the system of state regulation of pricing in Belarus will change, the press service of the Belarusian government reported in its Telegram channel.
““From January 1, 2024, the price regulation system will be changed,” says the press service.
It is noted that the corresponding resolution was adopted by the government. “The key change in the price regulation system is the introduction of monthly limits on changes in producer prices in the amount of no more than 0.3% compared to the previous month for consumer goods regulated by the decree, and in the amount of no more than 3.5% compared to the same month last year for borscht vegetables set», cucumbers, tomatoes and apples, which have seasonal sales,» the message says.

If selling prices are increased within the specified limits, it is not necessary to obtain approval from a government agency, the message clarifies.

According to the publication, the resolution also introduces a notification principle for setting prices for new goods instead of the current licensing mechanism for coordinating such prices, reducing the maximum maximum importer markups to 15% for non-critical imported goods produced in sufficient quantities in the country, the maximum amount of the manufacturer's wholesale discount at no more than 15%. Limitation of the maximum total amount of incentive payments made by the manufacturer (supplier) to trade organizations is prescribed, as well as the provision of the opportunity for trade organizations to directly provide advertising services to suppliers of goods.
“»The resolution was adopted as part of the implementation of the instructions of the head of state given at the meeting on December 21, 2023,» the message says.
At this meeting on improving the pricing regulation system, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the country should have a “clear, understandable” price regulation system from January 1. After the meeting, First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Nikolai Snopkov said that a system would be built that would be minimally related to price coordination. According to him, prices on the domestic market will be fair.
