MOSCOW, January 1 The Russian Federation is abolishing customs duties on the import of frozen domestic chicken meat from January 1 — this measure will be valid for a whole year and will apply to production volumes up to 140 thousand tons.
The corresponding government decree was signed in the second half of December 2023: by increasing supply, the authorities expect to ensure stable prices for chicken meat on the domestic market, the Cabinet of Ministers noted then.
Last year, chicken meat in the Russian Federation became more expensive since April, and prices went down only at the end of November. According to the latest data from Rosstat, chicken meat in the Russian Federation fell in price by 0.82% in the week from December 19 to 25, but since the beginning of the year its average price has increased by 27.71%.
Prices for poultry products in 2023 increased against the backdrop of a significant increase in demand, the Ministry of Agriculture noted earlier, implementing other measures to increase supply to support producers: in particular, a plan for additional increase in production was agreed with companies and the targeted use of preferential investment loans for broiler farms was expanded production
According to Rosstat, in the 11 months of 2023, 3.1 million tons of chilled poultry meat were produced in the Russian Federation — 0.2% more than in the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, in November, production volume decreased by 3.7%, to 284.4 thousand tons. According to the General Director of the National Union of Poultry Farmers Sergei Lakhtyukhov, poultry production in Russia will increase both in 2023 and in 2024 due to the expansion of state support measures.
Issuance of documents necessary for duty-free import of frozen chicken meat will be provided by the Ministry of Agriculture. In addition, the ministry will post on its official website data on the remaining volumes of products for which tariff benefits are provided.
