MOSCOW, January 2Scientists from the Timiryazev Academy and the Main Botanical Garden named after. N.V. Tsitsin RAS filed an application to register a patent for planting material of Arctic princess — a plant no less beneficial for the immune system than raspberries — due to the increased content of secondary metabolites in microclones, the press service of the academy said.
““Microclones of Arctic princess with a high content of secondary metabolites — substances that have a beneficial effect on the human immune system — are the result of many years of joint research,” the press service reported.

These substances, the academy explains, accumulate in all plant organs — berries, stems and leaves: the latter deserve special attention, as they contain flavonoids, ascorbic acid, tannins and other substances that help the immune system and, in addition, protect skin from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.
The developed technology allows you to control the process of accumulation of valuable substances at the germination stage, essentially allowing you to regulate the biosynthetic potential of the plant before the period of vegetative growth and fruiting. “This was achieved as a result of the elimination (stimulation of the synthesis and accumulation of valuable substances through the use of factors of different nature — ed.) of cell cultures by chemical factors,” the press service reported.
Patent application has already been filed; If the decision is positive, the new technology can be used in pharmaceuticals, and the demand for raw materials will become an incentive for agricultural producers to grow more of this berry, the press service believes. Now the Arctic princess is already used in the production of dietary supplements, working essentially like raspberries: jam is made from the berries of the princess, and tea is made from the leaves.
