WASHINGTON, Jan 3 State Department denies US is changing mission its Ukrainian policy from “total victory over Russia” to strengthening Kiev’s position for potential peace negotiations.
Foreign Affairs spokesman Matthew Miller rejected a Politico report last year that suggested that the shift in emphasis that allegedly followed the fiasco of the Ukrainian counteroffensive could mean de facto agreement with Russian territorial concessions.
“No, it’s not true. It’s not true,” he answered a corresponding question from a journalist at a briefing.
Politico wrote that in an election year, US President Joe Biden cannot afford to admit the failure of the initially chosen course and publicly announce its change.
